Clitheroe Town Council arrangements for the Act of Remembrance at the Town war memorial in the Castle Grounds – statement issued October 5th 2020

Clitheroe Town Council would like to advise that the Remembrance Sunday commemorations on Sunday 08 November 2020 will have to take a different format due to HM Government restrictions.

HM Government restrictions particularly affect gatherings of people so certain traditional elements of the Remembrance commemorations in Clitheroe will need to be amended so as to comply with the law/restrictions:

  • There cannot be any parades so there will be no parades either before or after church services.
  • Members of the public wishing to attend a church service on Remembrance Sunday will need to contact directly whichever church they wish to attend. Attendance at services may need to be booked in advance due to restrictions on places of worship.
  • There is to be a very short service at the war memorial incorporating the two minutes’ silence at 11.00 am. Attendance at the service at the war memorial in the Castle Grounds will be restricted to wreath layers only and social distancing measures will be observed. The war memorial area will be closed to members of the public so as to avoid a mass gathering.
  • Members of the public are encouraged to commemorate Remembrance Sunday from the doorsteps of their homes. The service at the war memorial is to be broadcast on Ribble FM and will be live streamed. More details will follow in due course
