WHALLEY ABBEY – A CHANCE TO JOIN THE TEAM!

As we prepare for the arrival of Anna Walker as the new Director of Whalley Abbey, I am writing to ask if you would kindly publicise two different opportunities to join the life of the Abbey. We are now looking for a new Assistant Director (full or part time) and up to four youngish adults to be part of the resident praying community. I would be very grateful if you could think about whether there might be anyone suitable in your parish and put them in touch. Here are the essential details and links:

Do you have experience in managing in the hospitality sector? Are you looking for a role where you can develop and where the welcome you give to guests is motivated by your Christian faith?

Working with the Director, the Assistant Director has a key role in developing Whalley Abbey to be a financially sustainable Centre for Christian Discipleship and Prayer, providing a place of encounter, spiritual refreshment and growth for all. The postholder will manage the day to day operations of the Abbey, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and policies, and will be in charge during the absence of the Director. The postholder will also share in leading the resident praying community, lay and ordained, who contribute to the running of the Abbey. Accommodation may be available within the site.

The Abbey offers a placement year on the community as part of the Church of England Ministry Experience Scheme, with accommodation, board and pocket money, sharing in the life of the community, with time for prayer, study, hospitality to visitors and manual work, all within the beautiful surroundings of the ruins of a 13th century Cistercian abbey.  Deadline for applications is 31 October. Licensing Service – Invitation

Finally, may I remind you that the Revd Anna Walker will be licensed by Bishop Philip as Director of the Abbey on Sunday 5 November at 2pm in Whalley Parish Church, followed by prayers in the ruins and refreshments in the Abbey.
