On Good Friday, 19th April our church choir will be singing ‘The Crucifixion’ by John Stainer here in church at 3.30pm.
Along with our choir we will be hosting 2 guest soloists and organist:
- Chris Broughton – Tenor
- Andrew Buchanan – Bass
- Philip Tomlinson – Organist
- David Thornton – Conductor
The work features three well-known choruses:
- ‘Fling wide the gates’
- ‘God so loved the world’
- ‘Is it nothing to you’
As well as five congregational hymns.
Stainer’s Crucifixion used to be staple fare for Good Friday in the days when most churches and especially non-conformist churches had strong choirs.
