A challenging fundraiser for St. Mary Magdalene’s Scouts and Cubs

St. Mary Magdalene’s Scouts and Cubs are set to carry out a challenging pre – dawn ascent of Pendle on Saturday April 22nd, planning to be at the top in time to watch the sunrise.

This is not just an adventure; it’s an adventure with a purpose raising funds to buy a defibrillator to be sited outside St. Mary’s Centre so that one of their number who has health problems will be able to continue his scouting activities.

The Atok logo shows the scouts at the summit as the sun rises. ATok stands for “A Taste of Kilimanjaro” recalling the experience of one of the organisers who climbed the Tanzanian mountain some years ago. As another leader pointed out, not everyone can travel to Africa but we have our own mountain on our doorstep just waiting for adventure!

Update: St. George’s Day Sunday April 23rd

Success!

The ascent had to be postponed because of thick cloud and rain on the 22nd but at about 5.45am on April 23rd 31 cubs and scouts and their leaders and friends made it to the top.

Well done everyone!

Over £10,000 has been raised. Thank you to all sponsors and donors.
